Sorry for going MIA on you lovely people! It’s been a busy (if you consider my life busy) few days as I’ve been driving all over Houston, catching passerines/songbirds, grocery shopping…and that’s about it. So exciting ,right? I know, I know…simmer down now.
Eats from the past few days have been pretty bad…not bad as in I’m consuming ginormous amounts of fast food and sweets, but just that…well, to tell you the truth, there really just haven’t been that much in the eats department at all. But we’ll not get into that. Lets focus on some more fun things?
I had another long run this weekend! I had 10 miles scheduled but because I didn’t know the distances for my route (or a route really) I just decided to run 1hr and 40 minutes, figuring I would run around a 10 min mile pace. Well, who wants to take a guess how far I really ran, in that 1:39:16 time span?
10.XX miles!!!! (I don’t know for sure! Internet is too slow for mamyrun to come up! Ack!!!) I’m guessing it was around 10.2+ miles, but I suppose I’ll find out eventually…
The run started off kinda on the wrong foot, as I was mentally and physically exhausted from the mornings activities (more on that below!) but I knew I had to get out and do it. The first few miles were hard, but then I got into a groove. I did two there and backs from the house I was staying at, and thank goodness for that since it was pretty cool (low 70’s) and very dry; which meant I was going to need WATER! I don’t like to drink/eat when I run cause it upsets my stomach, but this one was def called for! I stopped off at the house and sipped some water, then was off for the 2nd half of my run. I hit a wall around 1:09 but pushed through it and actually caught a second wind around 1:20! I finished strong and totally could have kept going, it if weren’t for the HORRIBLE pain in my left foot toe area (where I had a huge blister forming since I forgot to tape my toes! Oops!).
I was totally dry by the time I finished since the air was so dry from the cold front coming through and def had cotton mouth; yuck! I was covered all over with salt crystals and it was actually quite hilarious…I rinsed off my face and well, it kinda tasted like I’d jumped out of the ocean. Hah!
Overall it was awesome! I’m loving that I’ve realized the kind of training that my body can take and am proud to announce that after the San Antonio 1/2 Marathon I’ll be running the Dana Point 10k on Thanksgiving morning (which I ran last year: old post here) with my brothers! Last year they were bystanders, but not this time!!! Yay!
But before all that sweaty-salt filled-funness I trapped birds that morning in mist nets! Dang those things are hard to maneuver and take birds out of! But practice makes everything better, right? But check out all the pretty birds I got to hold and capture:
Lincoln’s Sparrow:
Chickadee:
Cardinal:
Blue Grosbeak:
House Wren:
Ruby-throated Hummingbird:
And they all bite. And make you bleed. Awesome right? But I’d do it anyday! Someone give me a job doing this all the time! I’ll gladly take it!!!
I got back really late last night and totally crashed; that run took everything out of me! That and the 2+hr drive home! Houston drivers are crazy at night time!!!
But I woke up to an absolutely freezing cold trailer! What Texas, you’re in THE LOW 50’S!?!?!??!?!?!??! Yes…I’m hating mother nature right now. But at least I had a good breakfast right? I started off with a mug of blackberry fruit infusion TJ’s tea and then gobbled down this plate of awesomeness: Two whole wheat HEB waffles w/ 1T natural PB and a smashed banana mixed w/ lots of cinnamon.
Nom nom.
Going to catch up on your lives right now. I haven’t been online to read many blogs since…well, Thursday! The travesty!

I'm officially still jealous that you get to net and handle hummingbirds. Although we did get four hermit thrushes in one net run yesterday which was pretty awesome. Fall migration is winding down up north for sure...
