I got this idea from a blog post found on Foodgawker (like Tastespotting…) and decided to create my own, but of the 10 Things I Want to Make This Year!
- Yeast Bread
- Soufflé
- Chocolate Pudding
- Herb Infused Olive Oil
- Roulade
- Crème Brulee
- Kale Chips
- Le Petit Fours
- Cream Pies
- Peanut Sauce
Some of them are pretty straight forward, but some of them could be quite the challenge. Why have I not done them yet thought? Mostly because I never have the ingredients or supplies (torch perhaps?) to make them (since $$ can be a problem) and sadly…I’m just simply afraid it won’t come out good!
If there is one huge flaw in my cooking/baking career…it’s that if something doesn't’ come out right…whether it’s burnt, doesn’t taste right/good, falls, doesn’t rise, etc…I am the crabbiest person on earth…and will never try it again. I know, I know…but I’m trying?!
Is there anything you want to try to make this year? Is there a reason why you haven’t? Let me know, and give it a whirl!
I’m out in a bit to do practice some more airboat driving (trying to build up my hours so I don’t always have to be w/ one of the bosses to drive) but I’ll be back this afternoon with the ST session I did this morning, along w/ my first session of Whittle My Middle (I know, I’m late starting, but better than never right! I’m starting my month RIGHT NOW!)
Yogurt mess for breakfast…with what little plain greek yogurt I had left. Of course I ate it out of a the tupperware to get every ounce consumed:
- Plain 0% Greek Yogurt
- 1/2C Kashi Go Lean Crunch
- Banana
- 1T PB
and I’m off!

Great list! I would have real croissants, souffles, and from scratch custard pudding on my list.
Breakfast looks great! That's actually my planned snack in a few hours! :)
Good luck with your list! I am so on board for that Creme Brulee ;)
And I'm the same way as you, if something does not turn out right, then I'm afraid to even attempt it again. For example, I have NEVER tried to make tofu again after I ruined a batch the first time! I guess that's what's on my list.
Do the yeast!! Zesty has an awesome beginner's bread recipe that was so easy and tastes fantastic!
I'm intimidated by Crème Brulee! But I think it's easy enough now that I've watched Julie & Julia :)
I screwed up kale chips a couple of times before I got them right...every oven is different! My advice? Guard 'em like a hawk so they don't burn :)
That's a great list! I made chocolate pudding once. It never set but it was still tasty.
i want to make creme brulee just to have an excuse to buy a torch :). YES to kale chips, peanut sauce, and herb infused olive oil, i think you'll love all of those, but i can't vouch for the rest. i've always wanted to know how to make a souffle but they seem so intimidating!
peanut sauce would be such a delicious thing to make :) great breakfast
you can definitely do all of those!
yeast breads are SO easy once you get started.
I am SO afraid to try yeast anything! I've done a few things on your list, but not many! Looking forward to seeing what you pump out!
Good idea for the list. I might have to come up with my own, but I'll have to think about it. Definitely bread. I've screwed up bread at least twice and never want to try again, but I should!
Thats such a good idea, I think Im going to do the same :)
There is a lovely recipe for peanut sauce in How It All Vegan.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with, Im sure it will all be fantastic, eventually! ;) x
I love your list! May I borrow the idea? It's like a bucket list for foodies lol.
YUM! Love this list.
I just made the easiest, cheapest chocolate pudding... and it tastes divine! It's from a book but let me know if you want the recipe :-)
great list!! i want to put chocolate pudding on mine! ill come over and try it :)
like the list! wish there was greek yogurt in canada :(
Making a list of what you wanna make is such a good idea! I think I want to try cooking beef brisket, in addition to some interesting new deserts. Possibly a pie or a torte! Good luck!
ok i keep thinking about kale chips too, we can make them together!
I have a little torch for making crème brulée. (I've made it once.) When not in use, I store the torch and the butane can in separate cabinets because I have a deathly fear of blowing up the apartment. Ha.
This year, I want to learn to make a lot of Korean food. We'll see how it goes.
If you want someone to test your goodies, just let me know. :-)
