Rut

Oh boy: I am in a rut.  A rut for everything: food, working out, running, life.  Ugg.  Maybe I’m just tired, maybe I’m not used to where I am yet, maybe because I have yet to create a routine in my new environment…but I’m having a bit of a weird time.

And food wise, goodness it has been as boring and tasteless…I can’t seem to figure it out!  I’m trying to break away from the things I suppose I “normally” eat and try new things…but even then, they’re not making me happy in the belly.  Suggestions?  All flavors are not tasting exciting and even (gasp) chocolate is losing it’s flair.

I started out the day with  some kashi go lean crunch, h2h, banana and UAB (sorry, you get a recycled picture…so no pb this morning)…and then was reminded we were being treated to waffles, which turned into pancakes because the waffle iron broke, so I had to partake a little…in which I had a 1/2 a small pancake with a little bit of pb and some crofters fruit spread.  Very tasty indeed…it’s been a bit since I’ve had a regular pancake!

I don’t even remember much of this morning other than laughing over this guy:

Yes, that is a pink gator head.  We plan on mounting it somewhere.  You know, like the Texan’s with their horns on their cars.  We’re cool like that.  You dig?

Lunch part one was totally random and only when I started getting a wee bit hungry…I ate a bit to distract myself from whatever I was doing: Dave’s Killer Bread w/ hummus, and carrot with leftover hummus.

1001250007

A bit later I had an apple with some cinnamon and then a scoop of pb to tide over a lingering sweet craving…

1001250009

And then it poured like a mo fo…and I was out in it by myself trying to cover the airboat with a tarp…awesome when the wind is blowing 30mph!  Very hard task indeed!

1001250010

As I worked and played with some GIS I snacked on two of these Mocha Milk Chocolate Blocks I received from Newman’s Own Organics…boy was it tasty!  I liked that you could actually taste the mocha in the chocolate but that it didn’t dominate the chocolate flavor.  I paired it with a small glass filled with honey nut cheerio knock offs from Publix…

I did a crack ton of strength training and incorporated my Whittle My Middle moves into it to give me some variety.  I did this set of moves twice.  I was pooped by the end…and still wishing I could have gone for a run (which I can’t, since my knee still hurts from Saturday’s run = NOT GOOD AT ALL!)

  • 1 min plank (extended)
  • 40 sec side plank (elbow)
  • 15 pushups
  • 35 crunches
  • 35 reverse crunches
  • 30 boat poses (5 sec hold each, w/ 10lbs of weight)
  • 25 bicep curls (5lb weights)
  • 20 overhead presses (5lb weights)
  • 30 laying down side leg lifts
  • 30 laying down inner leg lifts
  • 20 back kicks (each leg)
  • 20 front kicks (each leg)
  • 25 side kicks (each leg)
  • 50 front punches
  • 50 side punches
  • 35 side crunches (each side)
  • 15 v-poses w/ turn (5lb weights)
  • 20 shot-put throws (5lb weights)
  • 30 bicycle crunches

I really wanted to be able to feel my muscles working it in this session…because I felt a bit blah not being able to run and cooped up all day…and it kinda worked.  I still have an itch to get out and MOVE!  Stupid freak’n knee.

Dinner was leftovers from this weekend that I had yet to share with you!  I got a coupon for Eggland’s Best Eggs from the Foodbuzz Tasters Program and decided to use them in mini quiches like I’ve seen Caitlin make in the past!

My recipe, that made 6 muffin shaped quiches, included:

  • 1 egg
  • 2 egg whites
  • 3/4C brown rice
  • 1/2C chopped spinach
  • 1/8th of a diced onion
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • dash of pepper

I baked them at 350 for about 25 minutes and they were done!  They were a bit bland (I wish I had some Italian seasonings to put in it) so I paired it up with a bit of low sodium soy sauce…and it tasted like fried rice!  Success!

We’ve got a bit of an earlier morning tomorrow out on the boats for some more training so I’ll see you tomorrow!

P.S. Does it seem like the blog land is a bit slow lately?  Maybe it’s just me but I’m barely getting any blog posts in my reader these days…when I used to get hundreds at a time!  Anyone else feel like this?  Maybe it’s because everyone is going back to school…

I've been getting a normal amount of posts. Maybe check blogger?
Mocha milk chocolate--that's my favorite milk chocolate thus far.
Sorry to hear about the "rut". Maybe you can make the rut into a routine! Lol I'm definitely a creature of habit, but I take those routine oatmeals and veggies and always try to flavor or sauce them different so no two days taste the same

I've always wondered about those mini quiches.. might have to try them sometime.

Sorry to hear bout the rut. It happens I guess. I get in a rut with food sometimes but it's nothing that adding some variety can't help!

Sorry about the rut, but you know, it happens to the best of us! Just try to do one new thing each day, and it'll pass!

I am going to start trying to challenge my ruts...having to force myself to eat sucks (no hungr)...and i am sick and tired of debating btw what i "want" and what i feel i "should" have ...it bugs me....

Being in a rut is no fun! Usually, when it happens to me, I try to do something new and exciting to get me out of it. I have a suggestion for you, have you ever been to the Coconut Grove farmer's market? It is every Saturday in the grove (probably quite a drive for you though) and they have some of the most delicious, prepared raw vegan food that will definitely put some excitement into your food routine. It's also fun to walk around and enjoy the scene down there too. Let me know if you want more info about it. :)

Oh man, I'm sorry to hear about your rut :( Totally been there many times. It will lift, I promise.
That workout sounds pretty killer! I know you're used to running, but 15 push-ups (I assume military style?!) is a lot! Especially with all the other stuff!
I hope tomorrow is better :)

Love quiche! I don't make it often because my boys aren't too fond of it.

I find blogland goes in waves. There are times when I get way more comments than others. I think people just get busy this time of year.

Sorry to hear about your rut! Sometimes a rainy day is enough to make a little dip seem more like a rut. Hopefully today will be a better day! :)

I love the idea of using brown rice in the quiches. Yum.

I TOTALLY know what you mean about trying to make up for not being able to run. I've dealt with chronic knee pain on and off for a year or so now. Even with a physiotherapist, it got better temporarily until I started training hard again. It's good that you are listening to your body and giving your knee time to repair. Thanks for the inspiration!

Oh, girl. I'm totally in a rut, too. Maybe we're just going through a funk???

This is a totally off-the-wall guess, but maybe you're food isn't good because your MOOD isn't good. Never know.

And yes, blogland def seems slow to me, too! Glad you said that because I thought it was just me!

Thank you for your sweet comment last night about my grad school app, made me feel better :)

I've been in a rut lately too! I can definitely relate to being in a new place and searching for my routine. I think it's definitely hard to experiment and try new things while simultaneously trying to work out a routine for ourselves. I think in a few weeks we'll feel more normal.
