I.AM.EXHAUSTED. Probably not as much as Caitlin who successfully finished her tri sprint this morning, but alas…Big CONGRATS to her!
Daylight savings time totally had me out of whack this morning and I was up at 6.30 since when my eyes saw that time, they thought it really was, and not just 5.30. Boo. Up to do…nothing. Joy.
I finally felt my tummy rumble a while later and rolled into the kitchen for some goodies for breakfast:
Rudi’s Cinnamon Raisin Bagel w/ 1.5 T Naturally More PB, three strawberries and some pineapple
I hung around some more catching up on blogs and hulu and after a bowl of dry cereal, set out for my first ST session in over a week! Totally not sticking to my NYResolutions, but it’s been a crazy week. And this week is only going to be worse. AWESOME.

I did that whole thing twice! Tooke me an hour, and damn was I soar afterwards! Shaky all over!
I refueled quickly afterwards with the idea that I wouldn’t be able to eat anything at the street fair:
Tofu Parmesan Sandwich
- Spread of marinara on bread
- Cheddar cheese
- 3 slices of garlic/onion baked tofu
- lettuce
- tomato
- 2 pieces of bread
I toasted it to get the cheese melty and it was tastiness in my mouth.
Along with a juicy pear.
And we were off to the biggest STREET FAIR in the United States: Calle Ocho!
It was absolute madness when we were there. It was like being at a race finish, but for SIX HOURS LONG.
There was lots of food being made all over the place…including a lot of meat:
And big pans of fresh paella
Chicken and Beef Shish Ka Bobs
All sorts of rice, beans, empanadas…
And arepas (sweet corn cakes with melted mozzarella inside)
Oh yeah, and beer. I was DD!
We walked over 6 miles to see the whole thing and about half way through I was totally done with it; big groups of people like that for too long make me very anxious. All I start thinking about are disasters and how I wouldn’t be able to escape. Morbid, I know, but it scares the crap out of me!
I snacked on an Espresso Chip Gnu bar (I’ll give a review and picture of it later) while we were walking around and drank A LOT OF WATER.
I got us home super quick because I was getting hangry and whipped up this baby in about 5 minutes: Mexican Lentils
- Spoonful of salsa
- Taco Seasoning
- Mushrooms
- 1/2C cooked lentils
- 2 lettuce leafs
Heat up everything but the lettuce and serve in the leaves like taco shells!
On the side I had the last of the pineapple too.
And for dessert? Some TJ’s pudding made with UAB, some semi sweet chocolate chips and one of my Carrot PB Cookies.
Now I have to go get ready for tomorrow since I have a leave time of 6am! Yikes!
Hope you all had a great weekend!!!

Ohh man, I forgot how good lentils are! That's what happens when you lost access to the foods you love :-(
The insane crowds are the main reason I avoid calle ocho every year! I know what you mean about feeling claustrophobic around so many people. Hope you managed to have some fun! :)
ok your dessert looks mouthwatering! love it!
i get burned out by big crowds like that too, although it looks like you had a great time anyway! i've heard of calle ocho! i love rudi's products but have not tried that bagel yet, yuM!
Big crowds stress me out sometimes too. Awesome workout!! I love the lentil lettuce wraps too, those look awesome!
yeah it took us about 20 min to get there and about half way through I was like ok we are turning around...too much red meat and too many people :)
You were brave for just going!
I used to go every year as a kid with my parents...and then with my friends in high school...then it got huge and out of hand and I probably haven't been in 15 or more years.
UGH that sounds so old!!!
Oh...and don't be so hard on yourself with your "morbid thoughts in large crowds." My husband is a fire inspector and the first thing he does whenever we are in a large crowd (especially in a building) is assess the place and inform me the escape route!!!
Calle Ocho! Have you ever been to Cafe Versailles? It is my FAVORITE restaurant, possibly in all of South Florida (excluding the Keys:)
And arrepas...mmmm girl I'm craving some now!!!
Looks like you had glorious weather for the fair! I think I need to go get some pineapple right now...
I went to Calle Ocho for the first time last year! It is definitely insane!
