Ohhhh oh oh oh! Sing it Kelly Clarkson!
As you can tell, I’m a bit more chipper than I have been the past few days, sick and all. Granted, I’m still sick, but my spirits are up, so that makes getting better that much easier.

It’s interesting how your attitude while you’re sick can have such a huge impact on your recovery. But there are also other parts of getting healthy again that I have to take into consideration: NO EXERCISING.
I remember being in college and getting sick all the time. Of course, it was also when I had lost so much weight that I’m pretty sure my immune system was shot. As the story goes, I exercised no matter how horrible I was felling. Headache? Sign me up for that 6 miler. Upset stomach? Suck it up through that 5 miles. Congested face? Um, I’m not going to cut that 8 miler for that one. Fever? At least crank out 2 or 3 of the 5 you had planned.
Crazy no? I deem myself nuts, back then.
Now a days, like this week, I’ve been sick since Monday. Have I exercised since then? No…unless you could stretching for about 20 minutes yesterday and Tuesday. As stubborn as my head was about getting outside and pumping my blood, I restrained knowing full well that my body needed to HEAL.
It cannot HEAL if I’m stressing it out so much that it can’t recover quick enough. So sitting on my butt all day long is not going to kill me; it’s going to help me HEAL. Drinking lots of OJ and Emergen C is not going to do anything but help me HEAL. Sleeping an extra 5 hrs during the day is not a waste of time I where I would be exercising, it’s HEALING.
It’s amazing how one word, one FOUR LETTER WORD, can make such a difference when you brain is telling you to do the exact opposite.
So HEALING I am. All nice and toasty warm…]]
Anyhoooo…as of last night I was super excited for my lunch today. Unfortunately today I was so freak’n frozen on the boat I didn’t really get to enjoy my sandwich as much as I would have hoped.
What did it entail? Of course there was peanut butter…
And the obligatory banana…
But wait, what is that little gem hiding in here?
Or do we mean GEMS!? CHOCOLATE CHIPS!
Broohaha…now if only the chocolate chips had been melted. And the peanut butter. That would have made for a finnnnnnne sandwich. Next time.
I was totally craving the chocolate today, as I have been being sick (for some reason) the past few days, so I settled on this new bar as a snack.
I normally don’t eat PowerBars because they’re usually chock full of things that aren’t real or natural, you get the picture, but this Double Chocolate Crisp actually had an ingredient list that was good in my book! It had a pretty good chocolate flavor, but it wasn’t as strong as I would have liked. It actually tasted a bit mocha-y, but it could be because my nose is plugged and since I can’t smell, my taste buds are off. Makes me wonder how my other meals have really tasted the past few days. Haha.
Ok, I’m off to finish some work…I can’t believe I’m still going after leaving at just after 6am this morning. Yikes! Going to sleep well tonight!

this post speaks VOLUMES to me! somtimes I tend to fall victim to the mindset that I NEED to do something despite how i'm feeling. If my legs are sore, I push myself to do a tough yoga flow anyway when really - homegirl just needs a day off! thank you for this post, girl. you have no idea how much I needed it! **muah**

That is so, so true about healing! I used to be the same way - I would exercise come "hell or high water" ha. But now... I realize that you have to be sensible and logical. One day or week or month, or heck months, of not exercising is not going to kill you. I'm proof of that. So congrats to you for listening to your body girl!!!!! And glad you're starting to feel better!
Healing is so important. Hope you're feeling completely and fully healed up now! And hope that spontaneous trip of yours is going well!
woohoo for resting your body to heal and getting better! i've also made some progress on that front, taking a number of rest days this past week because i was exhausted from work and school. have fun in Key West! spontaneous trips are the BEST!
