Reel Time

You guys had some good guesses of where I was going to be headed this weekend…but none were on the dot.  Guess I’ll have to tell you then:

kw

(Sorry it’s so small, I hope it’s easier to see if you blow it up!)

See that little RED A?  It’s called Little Mullet Key, just outside of Key West, FL

Guess what I was doing there???!!!

Yes, I had the intention to show off my new bikinis but I was a bit preoccupied doing things like this:

FISHING!!!

1003200002

But what was I fishing for:

1003200005

SHARKS!!!!

1003200006

Don’t worry, none of the sharks were hurt during the process or kept, and swam away just enduring a workout…for itself and me.

1003200014

With some awesome bait…that one actually ended up stealing most from off the side of the boat.  Damn shark.

1003200016

How gorgeous are these beauties!  We were pulling in both Nurse Sharks and Lemon Sharks.  The Lemons were definitely harder to handle, but DAMN it was fun!

1003200021 1003200022 1003200023

In addition we were pulling up crab traps to bring home the claws for my friends parents…can you see them at the bottom of the boat?  Tasty for them!

1003200025

After many hours on the water and not having eaten since lunch you can imagine how starving I was by the time we got off the water at 7pm!  We got cleaned up and headed out to dinner at a local Thai/Sushi place called Thai Island Restaurant.

The menu was freak’n huge and since I was so hungry, it was hard to choose one thing! But I went with my gut and got the first thing that caught my eye: Clear Tofu Noodles

1003200002

It was described as a sauté clear noodles and scallions, garlic, egg, onion, mushrooms and tofu.  Somehow tomatoes made it in there too, but I didn’t mind.  Overall the dish was delicious; I would have liked the tofu cooked a bit more as I don’t like soft tofu, and it was a bit oily, but I ate 2/3 of the entire dish!  I was nice and content after finishing!

1003200005

And did you catch the main part of the dish???  Hrm???

NOODLES?

It has been years since I’ve ordered noodles/pasta of any sort from a restaurant…I didn’t even think twice about it.  Proud moment #23875203857493 of the day…hehe.

The rest of the night was spent getting treated by my friend to a walk and a few drinks around Downtown Key West…and ended very late/early into the morning.  Lets just say I was not quite myself by the end of the night…but not sick. ;)

We woke up pretty late this morning and I was pumping the water and Tylenol like there was no tomorrow before being cooked a simple meal: 2 scrambled eggs with pepper and green salsa verde.  Delish.

1003210027

Sadly I had to leave to get back home and so my friend could go to work, but it was an awesome weekend!  I can’t wait to do it again!!!

While I drove home I snacked on a granola bar, an apple and some dark chocolate m&m’s…I needed caffeine to stay awake for the 3+hr drive home.

And for dinner the only thing I could think of eating was raw vegetables.  I needed something clean in my system!!!

I basically stuffed my sandwich with hummus and all the raw veggies I could find in my drawer including: lettuce, tomatoes, mushrooms and bell pepper.  I had two carrots on the side with more hummus.

1003210031

And rounded off the meal with more protein from the two handfuls of dry roasted peanuts I had.

I’m officially exhausted, so I’m going to finish folding my clothes and get to bed!

Hope everyone had a good weekend!!!

SO fun! I bet fishing for sharks is craziness. Key West is such a fun spot- I went there for spring break one year. Glad you had fun :)

So proud of your noodles! You dig good, friend:). Your pictures are beautiful! I can't believe you caught sharks! One time when I was on a vacation in Galveston I was taking the ferry and someone had caught a giant (or it seemed at the time) shark and had it in the bed of their truck and I touched it! Spikey skin..I was only probably 4 or 5..so scared!
