Doomed to Fail

Oh boy, this weekend is not starting off very well.  How is that, when I’ve got some awesome people coming to visit me?

  1. I get my computer back, load everything it needs and only a few applications (Google Chrome, Tweetdeck and Windows Live Writer) only to have the same problem that happened before happen, AGAIN.  Yes, my computer is going to be shipped back, but this time I’M RETURNING IT.  There is not getting it fixed, I am absolutely sick of this crap and want my money back.  I’ve gotten wind that I’m going to have to pay a 15% restocking fee to return it, but you know I’m going to haggle my way out of it.  I’m not returning it because I don’t like it, but because it simply DOES NOT WORK!  Why should I have to pay to return something that doesn’t work?  I am going to get my way; I need a computer for work and blogging.  I mean, how am I supposed blog, especially about HLS next weekend!??!!?!?
  2. On the weekend I try to let myself wake up naturally because I have to forcefully wake myself up during the week for work.  Well I guess my body needed more sleep because I woke up later than I thought I would, leaving me late to start my 11 miler this morning.  Oops.
  3. Then, because I was in such a hurry, I didn’t fuel properly. I had 3 bites of an apple, some water, and a few Kashi Cinnamon Harvest Squares before shooting out the door.  I had water and chomps this time though, so I was prepared for the impending hunger!
  4. But then I was dumb enough to try out my new Camelbak for the first time ever on my long run. VERY.BAD.DECISION.  I had every intention of trying it out during the week on some shorter runs but they were either speed, shorter or with someone who had water prepared so I never needed it.  Anyhow, I had several problems adjusting to it and had to stop several times in the first two miles.  But my main problem was here:

The strap was rubbing me raw and I couldn’t get it to stop! I tightening and loosened everything but still, I couldn’t get to the pain to stop. Any suggestions on how to keep the chaffing from happening?  It only happens on the side where the water tube comes out of the backpack, and it hits me right above where my top strap sits.

So wrap all those things together and I didn’t finish the 11 miles.  I knew I wouldn’t be able to wear the camelbak comfortably the whole time and besides, I was starving and knew the chomps weren’t going to be enough for the rest of the run.  All in all I finished 5.6 miles in 49 minutes and like a few weekends ago when this happened, but due to stomach issues. I was disappointed.

But really, there is always tomorrow! First though, I want to figure out the best way to wear the camelbak!  I like having water with me while I run!  I know it’s going to make a huge difference for me time and pace wise!  I mean, even the 5.6 miles was at less than a 9 min pace, with hunger!

Anyhow, now I’m playing with Honey while I wait for my family and friends to get there.  I suppose I should eat something too since I haven’t since finishing that run and doing some abs…what shall I scrounge up…

I had the same problem with chaffing and my camelbak when I wore it for the first time on a long run. I have since discovered to rub vaseline on my shoulders and back areas where the chaffing occurred. I also make sure my tank tops I wear with my camelbak completely cover my back (no racer back style!!) Since then I haven't had any spots rubs raw but sometimes I get uncomfortable on one shoulder (my left) for some reason...probably has to do with my form!

Ugh, sorry about the computer and camelbak!! I HATE chafing when I run, which is why I'm usually so resistant to trying new gear. Hope you get it all figured out. And PS- can't wait to meet you at HLS!!

Maybe try putting some moleskin on the strap in the spot where it rubs? I've used moleskin along the backs of shoes before to keep my heels from being rubbed raw and it works great...it has an adhesive, but you might try just stitching it on loosely as well so that your sweat doesn't make the piece fall off. Good luck!!

oh, yikes. maybe just try a different shirt? might be the easiest fix.

hey, question - what's the easiest/fastest way to clean the thing after? it's one of my least favorite parts of using camelbaks!

Sorry to hear that the camelback was biting you! I've never used one so I can't suggest anything...

And the computer....how frustrating is that??? I wouldn't pay a 15% re stocking fee either. No way, Jose...
