Get Up and Love It

Every morning when I get up, it's not a hassle for me.  Well, unless I'm really tired and didn't sleep well.

Alas, besides maybe not wanting to get up physically, mentally, I'm all ready for that dear little thing called WORK.  It's not something I do for the money so I can make sure I have what I want...it's something I do because I love it.

I know I've shared my work adventures with you over the years and they didn't come easy.

I could have been making 65k sitting behind a desk.  But I would not be happy.  That job, which I did for 6 months before being offered a permanent position...was great people wise...but it was so mundane I wanted to kick myself every single day.

So when I found out that I could take another position that didn't pay anywhere near that much or offer other things I was at a stand still.

Do I go for the job that's economically stable?  Help me in the long run?  Impress people?

Or the one that will make me smile?  Create the most awesome memories? Generate some awesome stories?

If you can't tell, I went for the later.  And it was all worth it.

So do what you love...fight for what you wish for...and don't think you have to please anyone.

What do you do for work? Do you like it? Do you wish you could be doing something else?  What would you really LOVE to do?!

I love reading about your work and I love it even more that I can feel your passion for it. I want to do something I enjoy too.

my job, acting, although not at all stable (and will never be) makes me unbelievably happy - even the frustrating parts like constant rejection and disappointment and being told mean things about myself are better than what i've experienced in any other job (and i've had lots) so that's why i keep at it!

I love this post! Amazing!

And that first picture is one of the best I've seen. I want to frame it and hang it in my house. Seriously.

melissa-i love this post! i'm also a firm believer that we should pick careers we love and our passionate about..because at the end of the day, it's that passion for our work that will help us get through tough times, not the $XXX that we make at some stable job. as someone who is unemployed (sadly) and job searching, this post was really encouraging to me!

Gorgeous photos, and so glad to see you are SO happy. I have finally found the job for me - and it feels so great. I was never a 40-hour a week desk sitter, and that's why my part-time gigs fulfill my life so much better. I am FINALLY happy, yay! :)

I think it's amazing (and inspirational) that you have so much passion for what you do.

I have a job that pays the bills, but I want more out of it. I want a career but until I figure out my true passion, I will continue to wake up each morning and trek on.

I love reading about your work adventures

I'm struggling with that right now. I have a fantastic job with great benefits and growth, but more and more I see myself working in the health field! Trying to take time to make a good decision....

I never used to understand why my mom would say she hated working at a college library. Now I do. I don't do what I love, but what I do is helping me get there. I get free tuition and flexible hours and in 4(ish) years I hope to be in a much happier place!

WITHOUT A DOUBT you made the right choice 100%!! Money does not buy you happiness.

I just looked through some of your posts on New Zealand and it made me so happy so see how much you loved it here! You should definately come back and visit. The South Island is so different to the north. But first you have to come to Wellington. I may be a bit biased when I say this but it is hands down the most beautiful city you'll ever see!

Thank you so much for your comment on my blog. I absolutely love reading yours even though I don't comment all that much. Your side notes are so inspirational. Thank you so much :)

I love that you didn't choose the easy road...makes it so much more worth it. Payroll is def not my dream job and it's boring as sin, but that's what you get for taking the safe route, right???

That's great that you are passionate about your job!

I kind of hate my job right now, but I'm not sure that being a graduate student "counts" as real employment. I do like the teaching position that I hold this year, but I'll be ready for my second degree to be over. I've been in school for toooo long.

I love this. It's so fantastic to see someone who has a passion for what they do.

I went back to school to become a teacher. The pay isn't as good as my old job but it makes me so happy. I love it!

It's so true that you need to follow your dreams, regardless of the monetary outcome. Sure, you want to make enough to survive and live in some level of comfort, but you have to enjoy what you do as well. I'm currently on that path to get the training I need for the job I want. It just so happens that I'll make more than in my previous career, but that was never the motivating factor.
