Here is another version of my day in the field…through the eyes of Whit. And the first time in the snow. It was…interesting!
[[I started off the day with my apple pb oats…same ol’ same ol’ I know. Then packed up hummus/cheese/veggy sandwiches up for Whit and I and hacked out into the field.]]
This is the backside of town…after that first bout of snow on Saturday night/Sunday morning. It’s still hanging around! Oh, well, it could be the snow that was currently falling from the sky also!
Oh so entertaining!
Neither of us have ever seen windmills surrounded by snow so we were absolutely in aw. It’s definitely a sight to see!
We headed into the canyon to fun into some deer…
More snow…
And mustang running around in the freezing water. Poor things.
Then it was up the hill…we slipped and slid a few times, which caused a few shaky hands, but we’re still here and that’s all that counts, right?
We’re gonna drive/catapult off the mountain!
Well, after discovering how cold it was…
I’m surprised we weren’t tempted. Just check out that face!
Some hiking was required as the car couldn’t make it up the hill; don’t worry, we picked up some very expensive tire chains to use for next time…no rolling off the mountain for us!
Such a beautiful view…
Then, it was time to warm off and head out to the desert! Yes, HEAT!
But if you look close in the background of some of the pictures you can see the snow on the mountain tops..
We’re not bored, I swear.
Driven away into a very deep canyon…can you believe someone slept through the entire bumpy road there!? What the what?!
And the end to it all…Ahhh…
We ended the night by stuffing ourselves with some tasty burgers and sweet potato fries. I had a black bean burger in a pita with mustard, tomato and spinach along with an entire potato doused in Italian herbs and garlic. Whit had two TJ’s Marsala Burgers with the fixings and the other sweet potato made into fries. A night of sheer laziness.
And you know I never end the night without dessert?! Tonight may have included two because damnit, I just wanted chocolate!
The fabulous Danica was nice enough to send me some of Annie the Baker’s cookies that I tried at FB Fest and I finally dug into them tonight!
She sent me a variety of cookies including a few I didn’t get to try at FB Fest. You can bet you know which ones I tried tonight! New ones!
I split one of each of the Oatmeal Chocolate and Macadamia Cookies. Oh my goodness the Macadamia Cookies are so delicious! I loved the spices in the oatmeal one though…never wanted them to be gone!
And since I’m on a chocolate fix, I totally ate some chocolate covered pb pretzel nuggets. I’ll probably pay for it later, but oh well…nothing much I can do about it now.
Off to another day of field work tomorrow…through Thanksgiving. Yep, while you’re all eating delicious food I’ll be freezing my butt off in the desert. It’s ok, I chose it. Haha…a real field biologist never stops for holidays; just postpones it! Thanksgiving for me on Friday!!!

Oh my gosh I am so jealous of your Annie the Baker balls. Gahhh. Reminds me I need to make more of Mama Pea's for Thanksgiving, stat. And I'm currently obsessed with those TJ's masala burgers. So. Good.
The picture of you and Whit driving cracks me up. You look so focused on the road. Probably a good thing considering that snow though!!
those views! You have the most incredible work environment. Even if it's cold, I'd much rather be there than sitting behind my computer all day.
Yeah, I am so glad your cookies finally arrived! I completely forgot to send the cute card I wrote out for you in the box. When I got home I saw it sitting on the counter #$%$#!!!! The mix was based on what she had, but, she said in the future, if I pre-order she will make whatever I want (FYI)
You have to try the doodle snicker and suga rainbow (my 2 fav's!)
I LOVE it when you share your days....such a fun job. I also cannot believe you all have had so much snow in Bakersfield - really LOL.
Enjoy your cookies and let me know if you want me to tell you which is which since I forgot the note :(
