There are two different definitions here on bulking up:
- My arms
- Dinner
Both of which are happening, or happened tonight. Shall I explain?
Today was like any normal day, with eats to start the day all the same:
Wait, that’s not oats?! O.M.G. Call the doctors! Someone is ill?!
(Ok, I’m a bit loopy right now, forgive me now for this post.)
I decided to start with something a little different: Chocolate Chip Banana Bread with Almond Butter and Kashi Go Lean. I’m not normally one to combine cereals and bread but man, this was awesome.
Anyhow, the morning went by normal, other than me not feeling satisfied at all. I should have brought something with less sugar for a snack, but alas, I was half asleep this morning going out the door.
Desert you were beautiful today, but holy moly you were freak’n windy. I swear I was gonna tumble off the cliff.
I got home and finished work then headed to the orchard to get my last peck of apples. So sad…I love apple season.

I had eaten the snack as late as I possibly could but because some things between my snack and getting home took longer than anticipated, I had to eat lunch instead of run at that moment. I knew I wanted to run w/in the next two hours, so I kept lunch light with a hummus and veggie sandwich and a golden delicious apple.
After some blogging time, I set out for my run. 50*F? Yes please! I barely think it’s cold anymore! I just might be adapting! Too bad right now at 9pm it’s 35…ick. Though I shouldn’t complain, you NE-ers are getting hammered. More power to ya.
Alas, I ran 5.25 miles in 50 minutes and felt great! I kept to all the dirt trails around town so that also helped my knee from feeling ping-y…thank goodness. I was super stiff though so I decided instead of strength training when I got home I did one of my favorite yoga DVD’s. Honey wanted to do some yoga too.
Oddly enough I had to change out of my long sleeve shirt I was wearing to run because when I was doing my planks and downward dog, my muscles were too big for the shirt and making my arms feel weird! This shirt used to be loose! So either I’m getting fatty arms or bulking up. I’ll take the later. Strength training is finally paying off…cause I could hold all the plank moves that lasted over 5 minutes long. Oh yeah.
So flexible, unlike her momma…who can’t even do downward dog correctly in any way shape or form. That would be why I never go to classes.
45 minutes later I was done, sore and relaxed, and hungry. Lunch was about 5 hours before so you know I was famished! So not only were my arms bulked up for the day, but now my food needed to be, and since my December goal was to bulk up my dinners so I would snack less afterwards, I was on it for tonight. As I was over the weekend and never posted about those.
Alas, part one: Salad with an egg, TJ’s marsala burger, spinach and tomato.
And three mini potatoes sautéed in spices with some onion pieces.
Talk about full. But not too full. A good full.
What do you add to bulk up your foods and keep you satisfied?
And to end the night, a bite size piece of Peppermint Oreo Bark. Just enough to hold me over with my tea.
Monday is gone, Tuesday’s almost here and that much closer to the next weekend! Yay!!! I try to think of it that way…it helps. haha.

My cat does the same thing when I roll out my mat! I can identify with not doing yoga correctly. I am so so so inflexible. To bulk up foods I add cheese or if I'm making pasta I'll add arugula.
When I went for my run today it was in the 40's. In the beginning I kept thinking that it was too cold, but then I remembered all those NE-ers and didn't feel as bad! ;)
You're dinner looks great! :) Great way to bulk it up too!
To keep me feeling satisfied and full, I eat a LOT of protein. I try to eat 1 gram of protein for every pound of body weight. I probably eat too much protein and not enough carbs!
Your cat is so cute!
I like to have brown rice with my meals to make it more filling. Or, I'll have pizza with a salad on the side. And when I make cookies, I like to make them with rolled oats so they are more nutritious and satisfying. And when I eat fruits and veggies for a snack, I like to have cheese as well for protein, or some avocado for healthy fats.
I love the idea to add cereal to bread - with a nut butter of some sort. Different textures and crunches. Yumm!
Great job on your strength training - I wish I could hold a plank for 5 minutes - I can do about one and that's it!
you are def bulking up!! I know I have...or I think I have. I usually throw in a patty (like you did), cheese, and eggs!!!
Sometimes I think cats have rubber bones...the positions Pavlov sleeps in boggle my mind!
Thanks for keeping us NEers in mind...it's not supposed to get above freezing here until Saturday!
Hmmm...for bulking meals up I will also sometimes add eggs. But also if I'm making a soup I'll sometimes add barley or rice. Or if it's chili I'm eating, I'll add corn chips, yogurt, and greens all together to round out the meal. I try to not just eat bread and pb to fill up because otherwise I end up eating that instead of real meals.
I've been adding extra veggies and hummus to pretty much every meal. It's simple, easy and makes me WAY more full...plus you can never have too much hummus :)
Oh and way to go on the arm strength girl!! I really need to get some sort of routine going, because even my 3x weekly strength training never seems to have any results haha!
I add roasted broccoli. It fills me up pretty quickly!
great job on your strength training! For bulking up meals, protein is best, but fat is what makes you feel full. We usually do hummus or eggs. And thanks for the enjoyable post! very fun! :)
Peppermint oreo bark?! say what?
I always freeze at the beginning of winter but then I get used to it.. and winter used to be my favorite time to run!
Way. to. go!!!! (The run and killer arms!)
It's 30F here in DC! I'm from NE but still not used to the cold somehow.... haha
I've been bulking up all of my meals a little bit to avoid snacking - some extra PB at breakfast, slighter bigger snack, apple after lunch!
i'm forever adding frozen veggies and salad mixes to bulk up my meals.
I love your breakfast! And yoga Honey, too... :)
