Whew, what a weekend!!! How many of you tried out my Peppermint Oreo Bark? Or my Peanut Butter Rice Krispies?! If you did let me know!? I’ve love to hear what you thought!
Anyhow, it has been pouring buckets for days and it’s not going to stop for another four days…joy. That did not make for fun driving through the mountains, the passes and the downtown areas…I’m sure you can imagine how badly LA drivers drive…
At least it’s not snow, that’s all I can say, right?
Anyhow, I headed down to LA yesterday with Whit to go to a family gathering for his side…Yep, I met family. They seemed to like me…I think? It was a fest of Hawaiian delights and bowling! They rent out a nearby bowling alley every year near Christmas and bowl to their hearts content! We didn’t get a chance to bowl because all the lanes were taken, but maybe next time…I’ll show up Whit in bowling.
I was supposed to go to Bobbi’s for a Christmas get together but the weather was just so miserable and such a long drive away that I couldn’t do it. That and my brother was leaving for Korea the next day so I wanted to spend some time with him and the family.
By the time we got home I was exhausted. My brother requested Chicken Fried Steak for dinner, which was made along with Japanese rice, baked chicken and some vegetables.
Doris was hard at work with Mom in the kitchen…I helped a little too, but I was tired from the 3+hr drive just to get there. Not a happy hyper camper.
I ended up making a big salad with a chik’n patty and lots of veggies, along with a piece of fresh sourdough bread. That was some of the best sourdough I’ve had to taste! We ended up the night with some Lemon Meringue and Chocolate Mousse Pie from Marie Calendar's thanks to my brother, and I brought some leftover Peanut Butter Rice Krispies and Peppermint Oreo Bark from the earlier gathering. I may have eaten a bit too much of the PB Rice Krispies and gone to bed with an unhappy belly…
I woke up this morning to a light mist and rain but knew that if I didn’t do it then, it would never happen…what am I talking about? My long run for the week. I hate hate hate running in the rain because I end up chaffing so much, but it had to be done.
Before I left I had a small banana with a bit of granola and headed out the door with my camelbak and lots of water…1:40 later I ran 10.5 miles and was glad of it! Though I think I was still running off the sugar high from last night’s desserts as I never had to day any chews during the run!
By the time I cleaned up I was ready for breakfast! I had my usual pb apple oats but this time I had a pink lady in there; what the what?! It’s been a whiel sicne I’ve had those cause they’re way too expensive in the mountains…and too far to drive to to make them worth it!
It was a long drive back for Whit and I to my place so I snacked on another apple and some dry roasted cashews…until I realized I was just thirsty…
But you can bet by the time we got home way after lunch time I was more than ready for lunch! I heated up the leftover Sausage-less Sausage Soup from Friday night, added some extra broccoli and paired it up with one of the leftover buttermilk biscuits via TJ’s. So delicious, and warm; see the smoke!?
And then we watched the rain…and Grease. Whit’s never seen it so I made him watch the whole danged thing!
I was super lazy when it came to dinner tonight and remembered that I had a “welcome to town” free lunch/dinner card to a local Latin American restaurant: Don Juan’s. I must say, for a town out in the middle of no where it was quite good! They started off the meal with fresh homemade ciabatta bread and an olive oil dip that was to die for. It was a mixture of olive oil, vinegar, lime, scallions and cilantro. I definitely need to try and make this at home!
Whit decided to get the Ahi Steak Salad that he demolished, along with extra ciabatta bread…
And I went with the Grilled Vegetable Sandwich and Sweet Potato Fries. Al lI really wanted was the fries because I’ve been wanting them for almost a week, so I fully indulged…they were delicious! I ate half the sandwich, with on the bottom piece of the bread because I was pretty much too full from the fries.
Now I’m chilln’ in the comfort of home, watching Planet Earth (oh how I love) and trying to keep this one from chewing off the corner of my laptop because she’s a demon…and I lover her.
Hope your Monday looks good for you! I can’t work because of the rain so we’ll see what I come up with to keep myself occupied!!!!

Wow, that food looks awesome :). It all sounds really good too. I'm planning on making the PB Rice Krispy treats sometime soon, I just have to get to the grocery store to buy all the stuff for them!
Congrats on 10.5 miles! The longest I've ever ran was 10... are you training for a half?
Amy Lauren
YES I love that you made Whit watch Grease. Haha I hope he loved it. Mike STILL hasn't seen all of Titanic (I gave him the "shortened" version where I FF through all the non-essential parts), so I told him that on my birthday it's gonna be me, him, chocolate cake, champagne and Titanic. Heh heh heh.
Glad you had a good weekend and enjoyed meeting Whit's family!! Oh and pink ladies tie with honeycrisps as my favorite apples :)
Ugh, the rain has been awful here too, we're going on 4 straight days of it and looks like it'll keep going to Christmas. Drivers here aren't much better in the rain, lol.
You are a trooper for doing a long run in the rain, I wussed out because of the wind here. Dinner looks great!
Ah that food looks great!!!
Meeting the family can always be a little nerve wracking...but I'm sure they loved you! :)
Great job on the run! :) I hate running in the mist and rain! It sucks!
Your kitty looks a lot like mine! And mine likes to bite the corner of my laptop too... grrr!!! ;)
Have a great week! :)
One of my cats likes to gnaw on my laptop, too. Crazy felines! Sorry to hear about all the rain, but you're right about it not being snow! *shiver* Glad things went well with the family meet up, hun!
I can't believe how much it's raining either! Sucks, the only time we have vacation is when we can't do anything outside haha.
Anyways, I tried directly from the OHNuts! website, and I'm still not able to apply the coupon code =( It brings me to a sour note, or something like that. Confusing!
Of course they loved u babe!
Love sweet potato fries! What work do you do that you can't do it if it's raining? I guess something outside? :)
