Recovery Time

And in more ways than one should I add.  It’s been a weekend!

As well as Christmas day sounded, I was actually working through a nasty stomach ache that is still work’n it’s way through my system today.  Ugg.  It’s not so much that I’m meeting with the porcelain gods with my face like Meghann and her family were, but lets just say nothing has been able to stay in my system…if you get my drift.

Anyhow, not only am I recovering from the stomach bug but tight muscles from today’s long run; I had my second to last long run before the Phoenix 1/2 marathon in 21 days, 11.5 miles!  It went quite smoothly, especially since I was worried about my knee, as it was a bit tight and sore after the speed workout I did on Friday afternoon at the gym.  Alas, I barreled through the sucker and ran the 11.6 miles in around 1.50 (I’m not sure of the time since I forgot my watch, AGAIN, as I forgot it last week too). I fueled up with the small bowl of mixed cereals, 4 strawberries and a bit of milk beforehand and ate an entire pack of Gu Chomps while on the run, with an entire liter of water!  I always need me some WATER!

As soon as I was able to get some real food in my body I definitely started to feel better (I had/have a nasty headache…I’m not fueling properly somehow yet I seem to think I am…damned electrolytes). I made my normal oats and smashed them into my almost empty jar of skippy pb…which is definitely not my favorite but the most portable natural pb I can take with me between my parent’s place.

I was finally able to meet up with my bestie after lunch and we chatted for a good 2+ hours about anything and everything!  It was good to catch up with her as we don’t get to see each other that often.

Sadly our chat session had to come to an end as I needed to hit the road for the 2+hour drive home, hopefully in more light than dark (mountain roads in the dark are hella freak’n scary).  My mom was awesome enough to let me take this box of crackers along with me in the car so I’d have something to munch on.  I had a few handfuls with an apple but then started to feel super freak’n sick while I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic…I think my calorie deficit was catching up with me as I was in some severe pain in my belly and my head was so heavy and raging in pain.  Next time I must remember to bring more protein dense snacks!

I actually dug around in all the bags I had in the car and found a Protein Odwalla Bar to eat and hopefully subside the pain.  It worked pretty well but by the time I got home I wasn’t feeling well again and about to pass the hell out.  Something protein strong and bland was on the menu since I was still feeling pretty crappy, but needed some food: banana and two scrambled eggs.

And because you all know me too well, there had to be something with chocolate on the menu, no matter how big or small…in this case mini chocolate chips in banana bread.

Now I’m drinking some hot ginger lemon tea, stretching/foam rolling and watching Monster In Law…seriously, funniest movie ever.  And I love Michael Vartan.  Hoooooooooot.

Hopefully the belly will be better tomorrow!

So sorry about the stomach thing! :-( The Skippy oats look wonderful! And I hope your tummy feels better soon. You're a trooper for completing a long run with an unhappy tummy, impressive!

I hope your tummy feels better today! I know I had issues yesterday during my run and had to cut it short, it really stinks but it seems like the more I run the more it happens :(. It could also be Christmas food, too. That's a really awesome time for such a long run, congratulations and good luck with the half coming up! I may do one soon but my longest is 10 so yeah. Don't know if I'm ready...

I know you have a race coming up, but....
You have a bad knee, a stomach bug, and headaches.. Have you considered taking a break from running? Sorry for probing, I sound very rude, I know, I'm terribly with phrasing things eloquently.

It's Christmas - it's the time for coziness and love! :)

When I have stomach bugs, I tend to take advantage of them and think, "Well, now I won't even want to eat a lot." I'm dealing with a lot of subconscious issues that I need to face rather than constantly lie to myself...

Feel better and best of luck!
