Oh it feels good to be home with my baby!!!
All she did was cry when I got home…what a baby. Ok, I guess that’s supposed to happen when you leave her for 4 days. Don’t worry, I at least had someone looking after her to provide food and water. And some play of course.
I got home last night and made sure to unpack my luggage asap otherwise it would never get done. By the time I finished I was famished, and threw together a big salad with some defrosted spaghetti squash mixed with a veggie burger and marinara, sided with two pieces of squaw bread from the farmers market.
I know, looks gross, but tasted good. And then to my surprise, Whit showed up after being away skiing all weekend! How cute of him…he missed me. Teehehe.
I started off this morning with a Vanilla Chobani I’ve been putting off eating because I don’t really like to eat flavored yogurts (too much added sugar), just plain ones. Alas, I broke this one open and hot damn! It tasted like vanilla icing/cake batter to me! So crazy! Anyhow, Mom bought me some strawberries from the farmers market this weekend so I paired some up with blueberries, some kashi h2h and tj’s fiber o’s and a bit of tj’s lf vanilla granola. Oh was this a tasty combo.
I headed out to the desert today to search for some birds but I was happy just sitting in the 70 degree heat. Oh man was I in heaven. It caused my cravings to go through the roof though. See those M&M’s? You can bet I ate all of them. Throughout the day because I was trying to stay awake…so I suppose it served a purpose. And an apple; I had to make the snack healthy somehow, or the guilt would have ensued. We don’t want that now do we?
I wasn’t really hungry from those M&M’s all day so I made sure to really pay attnetion to when I was hungry for my lunch. I had my favorite pb, banana, cranberry jam FlatOut Wrap in my reusable bag. Food comaaaa…
I needed something to offset the sweetness of the chocolate so I settled for one of my blackberry bars that I made with blueberries this time. Made for an excellent snack, and pre-run fuel!
My quads (especially the left, old college injury) have been pretty tight since Sunday after the race and I’ve been foam rolling and icing like crazy. I figured a short run might do my muscles some good and boy did I feel great during that 4.43 mile run (in 43 minutes!) as a recovery run, until I stopped and had to walk down a few steps back to my apartment! OH.MY.NELLY!!!! I’ve got the cat walking on my quads to get a massage and of course, foam rolling and icing again, I can’t get injured now since I just finished making my Marathon Training Plan!!!
I consulted a few of my veteran marathon friends and Meghann was awesome enough to look it over and gave it a passing star; a good schedule for a beginner! Whit, my brothers and I will be basing our training off of this schedule, along with 1/2 marathons and some vacations (KAUAI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) in there.
If you have any suggestion for me don’t be afraid to let me hear them! I’m up for an advice since I’m terrified about this race…since the last time I tried to run this race I DNR’d (did not finish/complete) and felt horrible. Luckily this time I know more about training and fueling…I will get to that finish line with 26 miles under my belt this time.
After coming home from the run I cleaned up and played with my crazy cat (who I swear is on sugar pills cause all she’s been doing is running around my legs and I can barely walk…along with all the awesome holes I have in my calves where she’s clawed me).
My stomach was a bit upset this evening (hrm…wonder what that could be from…damned M&M’s) so I settled for a neutral dinner…but now that I’m looking at it I realize I should have picked a non acidic fruit. Dangit
Mom got me some Sourdough Vegetable Bread at the Farmer’s Market this weekend so I had two pieces of that with two eggs and a tomato slice, sided with an orange. Tasted great.
And a cup of TJ’s Honey O’s to round out the night. I had the munchies. My bad.
So, what do you think of my marathon training plan? Give me suggestions cause I want to hear them all!

I had a cat just like yours growing up. Too bad my hubs wont let me get one now. He hates them :(
Your training plan looks great! I don't know what it needs and can't help with advice but it motivates me to make one for myself. Not of a Mary but for my own running goals!
Love that you have your very own cat massager! What a genius way of using a pet! haha.
Those m&ms look yum! For some reason I have a pack of PB m&ms that haven't been eaten in my draw...havent been eaten?! I KNOW! I shall get right onto that ;)
xxx
Glad you are back home with your kitty! And I seriously want those temperatures - on Friday our HIGH is 9 with a windchill of -15 - I hate January in Chicago!
I have no training tips, but since you have Meghann you should be good to go!
I think the plan looks great- but I've never ran a marathon. I know a lot of people whose longest run was 20 miles and they did just fine, so you should be fine. M&Ms are so awesome :).

Your plan looks great!
Maybe take a few days off from running or try some yoga to stretch out - it may help!
Way to killlll that race Melis!!! So happy for you :D I just loveeeeee Honey soooo much, ps....
Hope the job and life and everything is going great for you!! oxoxo

I stumbled across your blog today, and after reading this post knew immediately(sp?)that you had an eating disorder! Just subtle things, the avoidance of yogurt, the preoccupation and the way you felt you had to explain yourself for the m&m's.I checked your about page and sure enough there it was. I am also trying to recover and commend you for your efforts honey.I know how hard it is!
Who can resist M&M's? Or your kitty for that matter?!
I'd say if you've got Meaghann's seal of approval on the training plan, you're set! Have fun with it, hun...
Eggs & toast are my favorite "neutral" meal after eating something that makes my stomach upset. Plus, they're so delicious!
I think your plan looks good! Just remember to listen to your body and be flexible if you need an extra rest day...it won't make or break the race!
Cute kitty pic! :-) I'm the same way about unpacking, gotta get it done right away. And the squash dish looks good to me. The plan looks good, pretty serious weekend mileage - impressive. I need to start upping up my training for a half in March.
For some reason M&Ms and an apple sound like such a good snack right now. A sweet but healthy combo!
I'm really horrible at training plans, so I'm not much help in that department, but I feel like if Meghann gives it the okay then you're good!!
haven't been able to read your blog at work, even on google reader :( the pics stopped showing up! so i finally had time to catch up at home. CONGRATS on your half girl! you rocked it!!!
Your kitty Is so stickin cute :)
M&ms are a bad thing for me I can never just have a few!!!
Your plan looks great you did an awesome job with it! Only advice is listen to your body. When it wants rest let it rest :))
How's are legs feeling?
