Like Whoa…

Ok, as Vegan for a Week ended last weekend I decided to keep on keep’n on with it because I felt so great!  I’m still feel’n good no having any milk products especially in my diet, but we’ll see about other things like eggs and such.  I’ll let you know!

So this morning after much contemplation I decided to try my first soy yogurt.  I have been super skeptical about these because I heard it’s usually a hit or miss with most people, as it’s got an interesting taste.  I was lucky enough to find several flavor varieties in my town (remember peeps, 10,000 people population town means my grocery store has mainly big named stuff and not the smaller company products) and bought two, including the plain and vanilla flavors.

This morning I tried the Plain Soy Yogurt by Whole Soy & Co. and as much as I was scared, I had to try it plain before I mixed everything I had in it…verdict?  Don’t eat this thing plain…it kinda reminds me of paper, or cardboard…it tastes like the smell of cardboard (know what I mean? Ok, maybe not…)…but I’ve never eaten cardboard…anyhow…

But, thank goodness for add ins to the rescue! I ended up adding some vanilla extract to it, along with a nice amount of cinnamon and a tablespoon of pb powder.  Way to make the weird taste go away, and help thicken up the yogurt since it’s pretty thin (greek yogurt fan here, so I miss the dense quality it provides!)

I’m a texture and chewy kind of person, so of course I had to add toppings!  I had an organic kiwi, blueberries and a pumpkin chocolate chip muffin piled on top…and that made the yogurt bowl.  Two weeks without having yogurt was killing me!  Thank goodness for the soy kind, but probably won’t be eating it too often cause it’s $$$$$!  Yikes!  And sadly there is a Mango Chobani sitting in my fridge that I bought a bit back and will never get eaten…until Whit comes by again.  He can be the judge of how tasty that yogurt is!

Now I’m off to the field to look for one species of bird…not the most exciting day but then it’s the weekend and finally some time for me to catch up on your blogs! I haven’t really read any since just before Valentine’s Day!  Yikes!  So expect comments going a week back on your posts!  LOL!

Have you ever tried Soy Yogurt?  Are there others out there that you know about?  Any favorites?!  I’m up for lots of suggestions!!!

Ohh I LOVE soy yogurt! I just like plain :) the only thing that annoys me about it is it lacks the thickness of Greek yogurt, which I miss..maybe English soy yogurt is better!?

i was vegan for a while and still eat 99% vegan. although i have incorporated eggs and salmon while breastfeeding.

coconut milk yogurt by so delicious is soo much better although severely lacking in protein. also, another great way to get the good bacteria is coconut kefir. i use it in place of milk with granola... love the tanginess. sometimes, if you go to the turtle mountain website and sign up you can get free coupons towards their products.

other great alternatives: daiya cheese, tempeh is amazing so much better than tofu, diamond breeze almond milk, i even like chocolate hemp milk although it might not be everyone's favorite. sunshine burgers.

vegan specialty products are PRICEY so the bulk of my diet it basics. beans, grains, vegetables, fruit.

if i can figure out how to make homemade non-dairy yogurt... i'll send you the recipe. my first time was with coconut milk. it came out way way too thin.

Soy yogurt kinda grosses me out, actually! BUT coconut milk yogurt is really, really good...as is coconut milk kefir. I don't buy any products like that on a regular basis because they are so darn pricey, but every once in awhile they're a delicious treat!!

i tried soy yogurt before (I think from Cascadian Farms) and it was like a thin glue...it wasnt bad once i added stuff to it, but the consistency wasnt my thang.

I'll have to try this... I love soy. I'm all about my add in's too. I'm a crunchy type person and need my granola to balance the texture!

Never tried soy yogurt, but it looks interesting, especially after your add ins. Also chia seed pudding with almond milk can be a great yogurt alternative.

I absolutely adore the plan Whole Soy yogurt, I buy it in a huge container and go through at least two per week! I suppose to each her own, right? :) I promise you won't miss the dairy after a while - you should look into trying Daiya cheese - it is really tasty and melts very well, especially for a good vegan pizza!

Never had soy yogurt, not sure how I feel about it. Thanks for reminding me that I have kiwis to use up!

I say try the flavors. I think I remember loving the vanilla flavor (when I thought I was lactose intolerant).

Greek yogurt is the reason I can't be Vegan! I tried some soy yogurts, but the jelly consistency and lack of protein didn't do it for me. I also don't function well when I get TOO much soy. But I'm so glad you found one you like...great that you are going to try to keep up with the challenge!

I just started following your blog & i love it!
I also love greek yogurt, like you, and I don't think I could be vegan just for that reason. Plus no froyo? No thanks!
Anyway, your eating is inspirational :) Can't wait til I can be as adventurous

I just wanted to tahnk you for commenting on my blog. It honestly means so much.
Your blog as a chronicle of your story has been such an inspiration to me and it made my day to see that someone of "celebrity status" in my eyes had veiwed my post!
Anyways sorry if that was a bit creepy and lengthy.
I have really wanted to try Soy Yogurt, but I'm clueless as what to look for in a product. I may look for some tomorrow at Kings.

I've never tried soy yogurt. Mostly b/c I'm scared to plunk down the cash for something I might hate. Haha!! Maybe if I was was more of a yogurt person in general it wouldn't be an issue. Glad to hear it worked out for you once you doctored it up!
