Lights Out and Giveaway

As you all know, I’m a sucker for anything to help the environment.  That’s why I am so proud to be taking part in WWF’s Earth Hour 2011
earthhour2011_wp800
On March 26th, THIS SATURDAY at 8:30pm, thousands, even millions, of people will be helping out the environment and sending a message to everyone, by turning out their lights for ONE HOUR.
I would LOVE it if you would take the pledge through WWF’s website to turn off your lights for that one hour.  I know that it’s a Saturday night, and you might be out having fun and well, at that hour it’s dark, but take that time to sit and have a bath or dinner by candlelight, snuggle with your significant other, or just take a moment to look up at the sky and into the stars.  I mean, even the Empire State Building, Times Square and Wrigley Field is turning off it’s lights!
I might be out of town in Oakland, CA getting ready to run a 1/2 Marathon the next morning but you know I’ll be turning off my lights, and that includes the TV, radio and my computer!  I think this is a very important to get the word out on Climate Change.  And it’s only an hour!  I know you can do it!
But get this, I’m including a giveaway to help promote it!
ESCGiveaway 002
When I was at the National Products Expo I came across the stand for Endangered Species Chocolates, which I’ve tried before and absolutely love!  I explained to one of the employees there (thanks Stephanie!) about my running fundraiser and she gladly handed over a few kinds of chocolates for me to give to you!!!
I am super excited for this giveaway not just because it’s awesome chocolate (duh) but because of the way they make their chocolate, get their products, and donate 10% of their net profits (a minimum of $10,000) to various organizations!  How awesome is that!
So, for this giveaway I have some great products for you!
ESCGiveaway 003
First off, Dark Chocolate Covered Cashews.  How much better can it get than such a great nut enrobed in 72% Dark chocolate that’s fair trade and ethically farmed!?  And look at those little monkeys…they’re using those eyes to get you to give into this giveaway!
ESCGiveaway 004
Then there’s the beautiful Rhino’s on the front of these very tasty Dark Chocolate Covered Hazelnut Toffee pieces.  I know you all love toffee!
ESCGiveaway 005
This bar gives me a flashback to my trip to Australia where I got to see a wild Koala Bear snacking on leaves in the trees. So what better than to eat a Dark Chocolate and Cherry Bar with their cuddly face on it?  I wish I could!
ESCGiveaway 006
And then the Rhino’s are back with a Dark Chocolate Bar with Hazelnut Toffee.  If you didn’t get enough of it with the clusters, you always have a bar leftover to satisfy that craving.
Now, how can you get your hands on this chocolate?
There are many ways to enter!
1. Visit WWF’s Earth Hour Pledge Page and pledge to turn off your lights this Saturday.  Leave a comment to let me know!
2. Let me know what you would love to do to help out the environment this spring as the snow starts to melt and the flower start to bloom!
3. Tweet about the giveaway: @Tryingtoheal is doing a giveaway of @ESC_Chocolate’s to help with her running fundraiser! http://bit.ly/gIfWG0
4. And if you’re really feeling generous, you can donate to my running fundraiser as I run the SD Marathon on 5 June!  You can donate here; I would really appreciate it!
You have until next Tuesday, 29 March at 8pm PST when I will announce the winner!
Good luck!!!

I'm trying to get better about unplugging appliances when I'm done with them. Also I won't be using my oven nearly as often when the weather warms up!

I'm going to build a solar cooker, it's cheap and easy to make and way better than heating the whole oven to cook something small

My husband and I had already made it our new years pledge to have a weekly no-lights night, where we enjoy dinner and each other's company without electricity. I hope to keep it up this spring!

I just pledged for Lights Out (I always wondered how it worked, but it's good to know we all do it in our own timezones at 8.30, lol).

My hubby and I are super conscious of unplugging appliances and even turning off our water heater during the day while no one's home. It saves a lot of energy. Not to mention, we don't have a dryer or dishwater (who needs em in Hawai'i?)

Just pledged :) (love this idea and the chocolate!)

Planning to do another "side-walk" clean up: a group of us get together every spring since 11th grade and clean up a good number of blocks in the shadier areas of town! It's fun and good for the environment :)

Just tweeted about it! :)

This spring I am growing my own herbs instead of store bought, and also making an effort to use natural light vs. artificial.

I absolutely LOVE this brand!

I'd like to help the animals... kind of relates to the environment. I've been volunteering/donating to the local animal shelter. There are tons of innocent dogs and cats that need help and love.

I'd also like to start planting some of my own veggies to lead to a more "sustainable living" lifestyle.

this spring, we're helping our environment by planting our garden and more flowers/plants in the yard. we'll be visiting the farmer's markets again to buy local produce from the farmers that live around us. and with the later light in the evenings, we'll be out more, using less energy in the house for lights, tv, etc.

To help the environment this spring, I'm cloth-diapering my baby both at home and away. This cuts down on waste in a very major way, and I can use the diapers again on my next child!
