Cravings

Today was all about listening to my body and what it really wanted, because I’ve always ignored it to tell you the truth.  I usually go according to what I should eat, to be “healthy”, instead of what I really want, and morph healthy out of that.

So today I made sure to really listen to my body, but along with my mind because if both are not satisfied, we head into dangerous territory.

I woke up chilled this morning, along with feeling tired and sorry if I’m TMI, but retaining a bit of water and feeling quite uncomfortable with myself all around.  I’ll be truthful in saying that when I looked in the mirror I really wanted to skip breakfast…

Obviously I didn’t.  Being in the low 30’s I decided oats was my best bet, especially since it would be low in sodium to help out my uncomfortable body.  I was a bit bored of it really, but in using my new bowl of William’s Sonoma I was a bit happier with the meal: oats, apple, pb and cranberry sauce.

I headed out to the field and spent many many hours watching for birds and maneuvering my way through lots of brush, before realizing that oh, I was starting to get hungry.  Truthfully, I didn’t want to eat what I’d brought for lunch because I wanted something savory, but I was in a hurry and only had a pb and j in my frenzy of a morning to make.  I actually felt quite satisfied after just the sandwich, even 5 hours after breakfast, but wanted something juicy so had the two clementines.

A 10 hour work day done and I was ready for a SAVORY SNACKI heated up some leftover refried beans with salsa and used a carrot and two Persian cucumbers for dipping. Just what I needed.

I had to finish up some office stuff and munched on a handful of dried mango slices before taking another day off of running to be safe for the whole of my left leg (it’s just messed up everywhere) and did an hour of strength training in my living room. 10lb weights, big exercise ball, resistance band and pull up bar and I was a sweaty and sore mess afterwards!  Man it felt good to get my sweat on; I already miss running!

I was in a hurry for dinner because I want to get to bed at a reasonable hour with all the work I’m doing so I had cooked up a spaghetti squash earlier while working out, and topped it with what looks like well, poo.  Promise, it’s not.  I’m still on a savory kick so I had the beans again with more salsa, and all the veggies I could find in my fridge and freezer, so…spinach and cauliflower.  Not the most flavorful but hey, I’m a bit limited right now.

Hah, the savory only lasted so long as I got a SWEEEEEEET package today from Attune of my favorite and totally no where to be found in SoCal Chocolate Granola Munch…

Oh yeah.  Hit the spot for the end of the day and I’m ready for some shut eye.

Post to come about how to abandon the scale tomorrow.  But thanks so much for your awesome comments about my Vicious Cycle Post and On Letting Go.  You always know how to make a girl feel strong and well, recovering.

I am really looking forward to your post on abandoning the scale. Going just a day without weighing myself is difficult... While I am ready to chuck the thing out the window.. it just isn't that easy!

Dontcha hate getting to lunch and not wanting what you've packed? I do that to myself all the time. Or I'll make lunch say, after dinner when I'm full. Well, by lunch the next day there's not near enough to eat for what my appetite wants. Haha!!

That granola looks amazing!! :)

I have really tried to listen to my cravings lately - I find I am a lot happier when I do!

I can't believe you did strength training for an hour - 20 minutes is my max. I get super bored.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Glad you're listening to your body girl! I always feel best when I truly listen to my body. The cranberry sauce on the oats sounds so good- I must try this. And I have leftover refried beans- totally using that for a snack later today. <3

I am so proud of you Mel!! Great job getting that strength training in - and for the record, every time I take a picture of spaghetti squash it looks like poo but tastes great - maybe that's why my husband never tries it!

I like your idea of listening to what your body wants as well as to what your mind wants. :D

I think you're really onto something with listening to your mind as well as your body. It's hard to keep a balance of both, but I believe it's really important.

I was thinking today about working full time doesn't allow me to eat intuitively. I prep breakfast and lunch the night before so I can't just eat what I'm craving at the time. I also have to eat at certain times because of how the work day goes, so I'm not always hungry yet. It's awful!! Working life is not conducive to healthy eating life.
