Oh man, what a day. 9 hours in the same spot is brutal. I can’t tell you how stir crazy I got. It was hard, no doubt.
I didn’t have to start work as early so I got to take time for breakfast, but I was still lazy, so I had the same one as yesterday. I did notice though, that my oats have started to give me a really horrible amount of pain after I eat them. For like hours, debilitating. It’s rather ridiculous as I never make my oats any different and use the same ingredients…so I’m puzzled. Suggestions? Anyone not able to eat oats? What kind of problems do you have with them?
Anyhow, hours later the pain finally subsided and I was finally able to recognize the signal for hunger. I couldn’t decide what to have so I had the second to last chunk of Blackberry Chocolate Chip Bread.
That apparently didn’t do anything for my hunger, but I wasn’t super hungry, so I decided to just eat half my wrap for lunch, and save the other half for when more hunger would come my way. I use a flaxseed whole wheat wrap with mustard, lettuce, cucumber and a veggie burger. Was just what I wanted.
I ate the other half about an hour and a half later and then snacked on a few things throughout the long long long afternoon hours…Endangered Species Raspberry Dark Chocolate…4 pieces…
And TJ’s Dried Mango. No joke, I could eat this day in and day out. There is no added sugar like regular dried fruit so you k now I’m all over it. I won’t even admit to how many packages I’ve gone through in the past two weeks. It’s embarrassing.
9 hours of this…that is all.
I wanted to go for a short run or something upon getting home after sitting all day, but I was starving so I just headed home to make a huge salad with veg crumbles, salsa, veggies and leftover corn chips on top. Ah veggies…and all organic! Yay! My Earth Day contribution!
Now I’m chilling out with some peppermint tea and winding down with a movie (The Other Bolyn Girl, seriously, awesome movie and Phillipa Gregory’s books are GREAT!)..even though I have so much to do before heading home to see my family this weekend. Gahhh…I need sleep. And clean laundry. Expect a big pile Mom. Seriously, all my clothes…

EEPS! Busy busy! So glad it's Friday! I hope you have a chance to rest and relax! Have a great Easter Weekend!
I have yet to have a bag of those Just Mango Slices last more than 24 hours...err maybe 4 hours I should say. Love the texture!
I havent ever had issues with oats, but that is because I dont eat them, but there have been foods that I become intolerant to if I eat them too many times! I have noticed that eat oats in some form everyday and your body could might be overwhelmed with the oats!
Can't blame you for being addicted to the amazingness that is dried mango.
I can happily convince myself I'm chewing on candy. Yummm.
& the oats thing is kinda weird- considering they've never given you any trouble before. Here's hoping it passes soon! x
Hi Melissa,
I love your blog and have been reading it for a while but have never commented before. I had a similar problem with oats a few years ago. I had been eating them without any problems for several years and then one day after eating them I had the worst stomach pain I have ever experienced, and it lasted for several hours. At first, I thought that it was just a coincidence that the pain started after eating oatmeal so I didn't stop eating it right away. But the same thing happened the next couple times I tried to eat it. I stopped eating oatmeal for almost a year, and when I finally tried introducing it back into my diet, I had no problems whatsoever. I still have no idea why the pain started in the first place or why I now have no problem with oats.
I don't know if the problem you are having is the same as mine, but maybe not eating it for a while will help.
sorry oats are giving you problems. I notice sometimes food that never bothers me, starts to give me problems. But as I research more about why, there could be a few reasons: your body is going through a bump (detox, adjusting to something new, etc), or lack of enzymes to digest it, which can happen. The body is a mysterious thing sometimes. Maybe take a break and then try again.
Hope you have a great weekend!

I can only eat montana's gluten free oats because I'm sensitive to gluten. But that's just me.
Try eating your oats plain. Just oats and water. If that's fine then, it's the toppings. Then try adding in one ingredient once a day, and seeing what finally does it.
It may be all of the fiber in the oats and apple that is giving you stomach pains. I experienced that before and took a break from eating oats every morning and it seemed to subside. Hope you feel better soon!
I desperately wish I could get my mom to do my laundry! I just started the first of like eight loads.
Crazy about the oats giving you pain, that's no good! I have no clue why, I rarely have oats. Sorry! Great eats, I'm a huge fan of TJ's dried fruits and go through a lot too - flattened bananas are great to sneak into movies. :-) Hope you have a great weekend!
Your salad looks so good! Gotta love bringing home laundry for your Momma - my daughter fired me from doing laundry at about age 7 which it wasn't up to her standards - I think I've only done one load of laundry of hers since then - and she's 19 now!
Have a great weekend!! Not sure about the oats - that's weird!
A lot of Celiacs or people with allergies or sensitivity to gluten don't tolerate oats very well, myself included.
I LOVED that movie!! 9 hours in the SAME SPOT?!?! Your wraps always look amazing and I could live off of dried mango!! Extra time in the morning to eat bfast is amazing!
Sorry to hear about the tummy issue with the oats. Maybe worth just cutting them out for a week to see if you feel better? I LOVE those just mango slices. I have three bags in my cupboard right now :) And your dinner salad looks just perfect. Happy Sunday & Easter (if you celebrate ;))
Whenever I read your posts it always makes me so sad that Trader Joes has yet to come to Canada :( I want dried mango deliciousness... maybe you should consider a giveaway for all of your jealous Canadian readers ;)
As for the oats... are you pretty positive it's the oats and not one of the toppings? I know you said you use the same ingredients, but has anything been a different brand or switched their ingredients or was it a new bunch of apples? Just throwing out ideas...
I can't imagine life without oatmeal! I eat it just about everyday!
Raspberry dark chocolate sounds amazing! Sorry to hear that your oats are starting to bug your belly. I wonder if it's maybe one of your add ins??
That happened to me with oats too. The solution? Do NOT cook them. I now have raw oats, ground flax, puffed millet and almond milk topped with a spoonful of almond butter for breakfast, and I feel great! Cooked oats on the other hand...woah, pain!
